B1 English test

What is the B1 (GESE Grade 5) Test ?

As per Home Office guidelines, any applicant who is applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain or for Naturalisation / British passport  is required to show good knowledge of English and Life in the UK.

In order to fulfill the requirement of Knowledge of Language, applicants need to obtain a qualification at or above Entry level 3 / B1 CEFR, which consists of speaking and listening modules. The test must be listed on the SELT (Secure English Langauge Test) List. 

 

Where can I be able to sit for the SELT approved B1 Test ?

UK-VI Test offers Entry Level 3 / B1 CEFR Test at different locations within the UK. We provide qualification by the Home office approved examination bodies to offer qualification to applicants who are applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain or Naturalization.  To book a test, click on Find  or Dates and Location to find the nearest test date. Changes in English Langauge requirement

Since 28th October 2013 the requirement have changed from ESOL (A1) (Entry level 1) level to ESOL (B1) (Entry level 3) level. If you have already passed ESOL at A1 level you have to sit for an ESOL B1 level (Entry level 3) again.

From 5th November 2015 onwards, Home office will not accept qualification which is not on the SELT list as a proof of Knowledge of  English Language. All applicant must pass English Test from an examination body that is on the SELT list and conducted at SELT approved examination centre. 

We provides all qualifications that are on SELT list and at SELT approved test centres.

 

How do I prepare for the B1 English Test ?

Once you have booked your test with us we will provide you with study material that will guide you on the format of the test. We will also provide you with sample papers so that you are prepared for the test so that there are no surprises during the test. Visit our Preparation section for more information.

 

We also provide classroom based training sessions with our selected English Language training providers. The fee for training is separate and varies from centre to centre.
